October Horror Films 2010 | Bonus: Day 32 | ThanksKilling (dir. Jordan Downey; In Broad Daylight Films 2009)
Brief review: ThanksKilling is about a killer turkey. He speaks and carries a shotgun. He’s killing due to a curse, but that’s really incidental. It’s a killer turkey. That’s all you need to know. The film is funny in parts and it’s crass. It’s awesome in its ridiculousness. I recommend this to anyone who appreciates low budget films (the IMDB lists the production cost as $3,500). It would likely also appeal to fans of horror-comedies.
Bonus: The film itself is the bonus. I can’t think of a better way to transition from Halloween (and our October Horror Films project) and get in the mood for the next holiday than a Thanksgiving-themed horror movie.
October Horror Films 2010 Wrap-up: This ends the 2010 October Horror Films project. Thirty-four horror films (counting this one and The Exorcist on 9/30) plus one short film in thirty-three days. This has been fun. I’m guessing we’ll do it again next year.
Only 34 movies? I got 166 movies throughout October.
Upcoming Vampire movie titled ‘Midnight Son’, should be out sometime in 2011.
I do so hope it doesn’t use any techniques from Twilight.

1. The Exorcist (1973, Directed by William Friedkin)
While some of these I just haven’t gotten to yet (Dawn of the Dead, Black Christmas, and The Curse of Frankenstein), I don’t have any interest in a lot of them, like The Blair Witch Project (stole it’s idea from Cannibal Holocaust), Invasion of the Body Snatchers (the 50’s version is much better), and The Ring (seriously, I don’t think I’ll ever watch this trash).
And where’s They Don’t Cut the Grass Anymore (1985) and Zombie Bloodbath (1993)? Now once you watch those, you’re a horror fan, but if you just stick with the popular stuff, why bother?
Which was quite fun to do. Saw a lot of interesting stuff, and I’ll write a mini-review for each one later. Here’s a list of what I watched, with the movies in bold signifying that it was the first time I saw the movie.

Did I watch more horror movies than you?
Good, I thought so.
I was standing alone in the sand on a hill looking at the lake, trying to feel a chill when my mind slipped, it flipped over to thoughts of you, it happens so much and I don’t know what to do. I had a thought, well, a fantasy really, maybe you were on the beach and you were laughing freely, yes, I still remember how you laugh even though all possible relations were in the past, it went way too fast, I try to make it last in my mind, I’m in a bind, I’m searching for love and I don’t know what I’ll find, I’m behind, I’m late, I’ve never been on a date. I guess that’s my fate, but I hate needing to wait. I had a shot, I think about that fact a lot, I sit and I rot, feeling like I am a robot with no feelings, just an empty shell, well I could tell that I fell headfirst in your spell and it’s swell. At least it use to be, when I had dreams of driving upstate to meet you at universties, but now, wow, like a punch it went pow, and I vow that if we’d live in Germany you’d be a frau.
Well, it looks good for now. Still in the working, but it’s looking hip.
It’s so hard to say that I’m sorry, I’ll make everything alright
All these things that I’ve done now what have I become
And where’d I go wrong?
I don’t mean to hurt, just to put you first
I won’t tell you lies (I’m sorry)
I will stand accused with my hand on my heart
I’m just trying to say
I’m sorry, it’s all that I can say
You mean so much and I’d fix all that I’ve done
If I could start again
I’d throw it all away to the shadows of regrets
And you would have the best of me
I know that I can’t take back all of the mistakes
But I will try
Although it’s not easy, I know you believe me, ‘cause I would not lie
Don’t believe thier lies, told through jealous eyes, they don’t understand (I’m sorry)
I won’t break your heart, I won’t bring you down
But I will have to say
I’m sorry, it’s all that I can say
You mean so much and I’d fix all that I’ve done
If i could start again
I’d throw it all away to the shadows of regrets
And you would have the best of me
I’m sorry its all that I can say
You mean so much and I’d fix all that I’ve done
If I could start again
I’d throw it all away to the shadows of regrets
And you would have the best of me
Just in case they’re wondering
They’ve got us pinned terribly
They don’t believe our love is real
Cause they don’t know how real love feels
You should know it’s true
Just now, the part about my love for you
And how my heart’s about burst
Into a thousand pieces
Oh it must be true
And They’ll believe us too soon
Baby, it’s fact
Our love is true
The word black is black
And blue is just blue
My love is true
It’s a matter of fact
Oh, and you love me too
It’s as simple as that
Baby, our love is true
They may say some awful things
But there’s no point in listening
Your words are the only words
That I believe in afterwards.
You should know it’s true
Just now, the part about my love for you
And how my heart’s about burst
Into a thousand pieces
So it must be true
And they’ll believe us too soon
Baby, it’s fact
Our love is true
The way black is black
And blue is just blue
My love is true
It’s a matter of fact
Oh, and you love me too
It’s as simple as that
Baby, our love is true
It’s true
Oh oh oh
It’s true
Oh oh ohhh
It’s true
Whoa oh ohhh
Baby, it’s fact
Our love is true
The way black is black
And blue is just blue
My love is true
It’s a matter of fact
Oh, and you love me too
It’s as simple as that
Baby, it’s fact
Our love is true
The way black is black
And blue is just blue
My love is true
It’s a matter of fact
Oh, and you love me too
It’s as simple as that
Baby, it’s fact
Our love is true
Baby, it’s fact
Our love is true
Ohhh
Baby, it’s fact
Our love is true
Baby, it’s fact
Ohhh
Baby, it’s fact
Our love
Our love is true
Bonnie and Bobby made their way to the bar
They didn’t know of each other but they weren’t very far
From both having some drinks and eyes meeting over the jukebox
She said, “Hey boy, can you play me a song?”
and so he put in a quarter and he went right along
she said, “How could you know “Blackbird” was just what I wanted?”
[Chorus]
As the song spun, so did the room
as they hold hands all of the lights start to flicker
playing it safe, he kissed her cheek
does he still look at you the same way now?
feel the same as 38 years ago and how?
so now that the numbered honeymoon days are through
she says to him, “I’m so glad that all our feelings are still true,
I
AGo and HOW?????????????????
So, just over a month before school and such. How fun. By no means do I hate school, but this song is good
I’m tugging at my hair
I’m pulling at my clothes
I’m trying to keep my cool
I know it shows
I’m staring at my feet
My cheeks are turning red
I’m searching for the words inside my head
[Pre-Chorus]
(Cause) I’m feeling nervous
Trying to be so perfect
Cause I know you’re worth it
You’re worth it
Yeah
If I could say what I want to say
I’d say I wanna blow you… away
Be with you every night
Am I squeezing you too tight
If I could say what I want to see
I want to see you go down
On one knee
Marry me today
Guess, I’m wishing my life away
With these things I’ll never say
It don’t do me any good
It’s just a waste of time
What use is it to you
What’s on my mind
If ain’t coming out
We’re not going anywhere
So why can’t I just tell you that I care
(Cause) I’m feeling nervous
Trying to be so perfect
Cause I know you’re worth it
You’re worth it
Yeah
If I could say what I want to say
I’d say I wanna blow you… away
Be with you every night
Am I squeezing you too tight
If I could say what I want to see
I want to see you go down
On one knee
Marry me today
Guess, I’m wishing my life away
With these things I’ll never say
What’s wrong with my tongue
These words keep slipping away
I stutter, I stumble
Like I’ve got nothing to say
(Cause) I’m feeling nervous
Trying to be so perfect
Cause I know you’re worth it
You’re worth it
Yeah
Guess I’m wishing my life away with these things I’ll never say
If I could say what I want to say
I’d say I wanna blow you…away
Be with you every night
Am I squeezing you too tight
If I could say what I want to see
I want to see you go down
On one knee
Marry me today
Yes, I’m wishing my life away
With these things I’ll never say
These things I’ll never say
They say that life goes on
I’ll find true love again.
It’s not the end of the world,
one day my heart will mend.
Someone will come along and a new love will grow
That’s what they say, but what do they know?
How could they know the pain I feel inside my heart?
They never lost true love,
so who do they think they are?
They never held you, or had to let you go.
Well, they’re not trying to live without you,
So what do they know?
They say all is fair in love
but for me that’s just not true.
I feel like someone took a knife
and cut my life in two.
It’s better to have love and lost
than to have never loved, I’m told.
At least that’s what they say, but what do they know?
Well they’re not trying to live without you,
so what do they know?
For me that’s just not true.
I should be loved blue October off the new CD.
It’s better to have loved and lost than to have never loved I’m told
At least that’s what they say
But what do know?
I’ve been listening to a lot of country artists recently, including Blake Shelton, Trace Adkins, Jimmy McComb, Rodney Atkins, Toby Keith, Paul Brandt, Colt Ford, Clint Black, and Dick Curless (short list), and they all have great songs out there. A lot of people say country sucks, but seriously, why is it so bad? “You’re Gonna Miss This” by Trace Adkins is pure beauty, no questions asked. “Don’t Blink” by Kenny Chesney is along the same lines as “You’re Gonna Miss This”, only it adds a little religious preaching in the second verse, but still a good message, for the most part. Now, country has two kinds of songs: Upbeat songs that are suppose to be fun, and serious songs that attempt to tell us something. Now, I can hardly stand the upbeat songs (aside from “The Fever” by Garth Brooks), but the serious stuff is really good. Right now, the song “Alyssa Lies” by Jason Michael Carroll is playing, and it’s about child abuse. Of course, he adds some religion into it (because every country artist has a strong faith), but I can look past that. Snap, in the third verse, which is currently playing, it turns out that Alyssa died because her father beat her. Such a sad song. Now, people always complain that all country artists are just whining, but it’s much more than that. Country artists are not emo, they just choose to sing about personal things. Right now, “My Last Name” by Dierks Bentley is playing, and it’s about how his loves his last name, and the family history it carries. It’s something I can relate to. Personally, I think “Mahoney” is a fantastic name, and it’s original form “O’Mahony” is just as good, and it makes me think of how my ancestors may have lived in County Cork, Ireland, all those years back. Also, country songs are noticable for being often about love, which is by no means a bad thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love rock/punk love songs like “Summer (In B)” by Amber Pacific, but I feel like country songs have a more geniune feeling of love. Now, one thing that annoys me in country is this: Female country singers. Females have every right to sing country, but frankly, I don’t think they’re any good. Only one song by female country artist do I like (which is “They Say” by Tanya Tucker). I just don’t like it. But I do like songs that have a serious message, like the song playing right now (“Days of Our Lives” by James Otto, which is about how you should spend every day like it’s your last). The old single, “Live Like You Were Dyin’” by Tim McGraw is probably one of the best examples of these kind of songs. But you know I appriecate a good comedy country song, it’s just a little rarer. Songs like “I’m Gonna Miss Her” by Brad Paisley, “Please Operator (Could You Trace This Call)” by Garth Brooks, “Fore She Was Mamma” - Clay Walker, “Do You Want Fries With That” - Tim McGraw, and “Mr. Mom” by Lonestar are all pretty amusing, and they most definitely have their place in country music. Really, I don’t know what everyone’s beef with this music is. These arn’t stupid rednecks (that’s Bluegrass), so that arguement fails almost worse than the arguement “The Bible proves the Bible.” They fail just as badly. The main point is, country music isn’t a bad genre (especially if you look up the many songs above), so if you don’t listen to it, you’re really missing out. And this is coming from a guy who owns an Agorphobic Nosebleed CD (101 songs in 19 minutes; it’s Cybergrind!!!). Look up some of the songs I have listed, and some of the artist, and I’m sure you’ll find something you like. Michael, out.
